The Cruiser Olympia Historical Society, Inc.’s current mission is to support stewardship of the National Historical Landmark the USS Olympia and the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia as part of their Transfer Application Process (TAPP). Our activity shall be done to first protect the USS Olympia as the only remaining ship from the Spanish-American War and it must be preserved and made available to the General Public, so our history can be appreciated and remembered. The ship is also a National Mechanical Engineering Historical Landmark and must be preserved to demonstrate steam power technology.
The Society plans to raise monies to help preserve the ship and take her into dry dock and repair the ship, so she will last another 50 years. Once repaired, we hope that families, students and the general public can tour the USS Olympia and learn about the history of the ship and crews as part of the American History during the period 1898-1917.
I just donated, I love the Olympia Cruiser. It’s going to take a lot of work to get a ship like that restored, but it will no doubt be beautiful.
Your project sounds interesting and I am thinking about donating. Are you a 501c3? Thanks!
Yes we are a tax deductible 501c3.
